No Fire Protection in Redditt

No Fire Protection in Redditt

Effective Feb. 8, 2020 and until further notice, residents within the Redditt boundaries do not have fire protection as the Redditt Fire Department currently is not able to provide fire service. For the time being residents are advised not to call any members or former members of the Redditt Fire Department as they cannot and will not respond to any fire situations.

More details included in the letter sent to Redditt residents by the Redditt Local Services Board (included below). As we are able to gather more information we will post it here.

CEASING OPERATION OF THE REDDITT FIRE DEPARTMENT

(This was originally sent to residents by email on February 8, 2020)

To All Redditt Residents

As a result of events over the last couple of years and the current state of the staffing of the Redditt Fire Department, the Fire Marshall’s Office has directed that the Redditt Fire Department cease operations and that it will not operate until such time as we have the appropriate number of members properly trained.

This is effective immediately and in the event of a fire within the Redditt boundaries residents are advised not to call any members or former members of the Redditt Fire Department as they cannot and will not respond to any fire situations. The Redditt Fire Department does not have response capabilities and is not in operation.

Any call out lists or emergency response phone lists containing contact numbers for members or former members of the Redditt Fire Department should be destroyed or disposed.

The Fire Marshall’s Office has suggested we contact the Kenora Fire Department to ascertain whether or not we can establish an agreement with the Kenora Fire Department to attend any fires within the Redditt boundaries at our cost. The LSB did approach the Kenora Fire Department earlier in 2019 in this regard and was advised by the Kenora Fire Department that they did not have the resources to support Redditt in this regard.

This matter will be discussed by the LSB and representatives from the Fire Department and once a plan of action is developed residents will be informed.

Until further notice residents within the Redditt boundaries do not have fire protection.

Thanks,

Bob Dolyniuk

Chairman Redditt Local Services Board
