Another great seedling day on June 27th - 10,000 seedlings distributed.
Thanks to LOWDSA members and friends, together we are reducing our carbon footprint.
Since the early 90's, LOWDSA members have planted approximately 300,000 trees, averaging 10,000 each spring. This year is no exception in spite of COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols. However, seedling pickup did look a little different this year with no-contact pickup and limiting locations for pickups to Longbow Lake and Clearwater Bay fire halls. For the first time, our LakeSmart team joined in on the distribution. With an early start to LakeSmart and a delayed seedling day they were able to take part, and we were glad to have their help.
A special thank you to LOWDSA members who purchased seedlings but were unable to pick them up and donated them back to the association. We will make sure they get planted, thanks to our friends at Lake of the Woods Brewing Company. In 2018 we partnered with them to have an additional 5,000 seedlings planted and they've maintained that initiative, planting 10,000 last year with another 10,000 planned for 2020. They will find homes for any seedlings that our members purchased but cannot pickup to plant themselves. Another great community partnership for LOWDSA in action!
If you missed out on purchasing seedlings this year, make sure to order them for 2021 this fall and winter.
Watch for photos soon.
