Highway 17 Kenora Four-Laning - Public Information Centre #2 Notice and Project Update

WSP Canada Inc. (WSP), on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), has initiated the Preliminary Design and Class Environmental Assessment Study to review four-laning alternatives for the 8.5 km long section of Highway 17 between Highway 673 and Rush Bay Road (referred to as Section 2). As part of this study, four-laning options within Section 2 have been reviewed and evaluated and a preferred route has been selected.

Please find attached a notice and letter advising of the upcoming Public Information Centre #2 for this study on July 4th at the Super 8 Motel (240 Lakeview Drive, Kenora). Further details are provided in the attached notice.

"WSP Canada Inc. (WSP), on behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), has initiated the preliminary design and class environmental assessment study to review four-laning alternatives and recommend a preferred alternative for the 8.5 km long section of Highway 17 between Highway 673 and Rush Bay Road (referred to as Section 2 on the key plan). The project team has reviewed the four-laning alternatives and recommend a preferred alternative. Study details and a key plan showing the study area are included in the enclosed notice. The study is following approved environmental planning process for Group ‘B’ projects under the MTO’s Class Environmental Assessment for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000).

The purpose of this letter is to notify you of the upcoming public information centre (PIC) for this study and to request comments or information regarding the recommended preferred alternative. The route evaluation and recommended preferred alternative will be available for viewing and comment at the PIC, which is a follow-up to the first PIC held on September 20, 2023. The second PIC will be held in-person on July 4th, 2024 at the Super 8 Motel located at 240 Lakeview Drive in Kenora. We invite you to attend the preview session for external agencies, Indigenous communities, and municipalities scheduled from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, or you may also attend the public session from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The PIC materials, as well as a recorded presentation, will also be available on the project website at  http://www.4lanehighway17kenora.ca starting July 4th, 2024.

Comments on the PIC materials can be provided in-person at the event, by using the comment form on the project website, or by sending a separate letter or email to one of the project team members listed in the enclosed notice. We would appreciate your comments by August 5th , 2024.

The project team will review and consider all comments and information provided as part of the environmental assessment and design. With the exception of personal information, all comments will become part of the public record in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
