We’re counting down the days to
ice-out just can’t come soon enough!
What better way to kick it off than with our
Lake of the Woods Cottage Show & 57thAGM
Monday, May 6th, 2019
Victoria Inn, Winnipeg
Cottage Show 1:00pm – 7:00pm
57thAnnual General Meeting 7:00pm – 8:00pm
The Lake of the Woods ice pilot just posted his first aerial photos, and the ice is starting to melt – a sure sign that spring is finally on the way and a reminder that it’s time to making plans to attend the Lake of the Woods Cottage Show, LOWDSA’s traditional way to kick-off summer and laketime.
Last year’s Cottage Show was one of our biggest ever with over 90 exhibits covering all aspects of lake life, and we’re looking to match that again this year. Whether you are looking for something for your cottage, watersports, information on lake living or tips for living green at the lake you will find it at our 28thAnnual Lake of the Woods Cottage Show. You can count on seeing a wide range of exhibitors eager to showcase their products, share their knowledge and answer your questions.
A new addition to the Cottage Show last year was a series of info sessions that were held hourly on a number of topics including estate and cottage succession planning, choosing the right water system, fire extinguishers, AED’s and first aid. Thanks to the knowledge of our presenters and to the interest displayed by visitors, these sessions were well attended. Based on the popularity of these info sessions, we will be holding similar sessions again this year. We may be changing up the topics a little and have improved upon the location/sound for these sessions.
Although there will be much to explore at the Cottage Show, we know that for many members in attendance each year there is a real sense of homecoming. We can see it and feel it in the buzz of conversations, smiles and hugs as members greet old friends and neighbours and gather in the aisles to reminisce and make plans for the coming summer at the lake.
Doors to the Cottage Show will open at 1pm and will be open until 7pm when the Annual General Meeting (AGM) begins. The AGM is your opportunity to get an overview of the association’s activities in 2018 and to learn about some of the issues on the horizon for LOWDSA. As we did last year, we are going to keep the business meeting as short as possible, to be followed by special guest with a timely, relevant presentation. Distance and timing prevents some members from attending but, thanks to technology, it will be possible for even those of you located thousands of miles away to be able to view the AGM on a computer or listen to it on the phone in real time.
We’re looking forward to seeing LOWDSA members at the Cottage Show, and we encourage you to invite your friends and neighbours to join you. If they enjoy our lakes and rivers as much as we do, whether at a cottage, camping, sailing, or visiting friends and family, they will find much of interest at the show. It is also a great opportunity to share the benefits of LOWDSA membership and support our growth and programs.
See you on May 6th!

2018 Cottage Show Recap Confirmed: the best way to kick off ‘lake season’!
Over 85 exhibitors; 200 or so exhibit staff and LOWDSA volunteers, director and staff; collectively, hundreds of hours of planning and prep; and the Lake of the Woods Cottage Show opened its doors to LOWDSA members and friends at 1pm on Monday, May 7th, 2018. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response from visitors and exhibitors, it was definitely worth the exhibitors’ efforts, and visitors were rewarded for coming inside on a beautiful summer-like day. The variety of goods and services on display was extensive, and all the bases for lake life were covered.
Dozens of visitors arrived early and waited patiently for the doors to open, with hundreds more (over 800 that we managed to count) following in a steady stream right up until the show ended at 7pm. It was a busy afternoon for exhibitors as they answered questions, shared knowledge, demonstrated products and even made some sales. With so many exhibits to check out, visitors were busy too, but there was still time for visits with old friends, chatting with LOWDSA directors and staff, and gathering info on living green at the lake from the LOWDSA environmental exhibit.
A new addition to the Cottage Show this year was a series of info sessions that were held hourly on a number of topics including estate and cottage succession planning, choosing the right water system, fire extinguishers, AED’s and first aid. Thanks to the knowledge of our presenters – Mona Brown, Darcy Wolframe and Gerry Desjardins - and to the interest displayed by visitors, these sessions were well attended. Based on the popularity of these info sessions, you can look to see this repeated and perhaps expanded upon next year.
The credit for another successful Cottage Show is shared with the many individuals, organizations and businesses who work so hard and long to prepare for the event. It is the support of LOWDSA members, Lake of the Woods area businesses, service providers and municipalities who make an effort to attend and exhibit during the Cottage Show that make the event what it is. Collectively, we are able to bring Lake of the Woods and Kenora to Winnipeg for the day to welcome back our summer residents and visitors. As always, we welcome the participation of other lake-oriented businesses and organizations outside of the Lake of the Woods area who join us in Winnipeg, expanding the show’s scope.
We are already talking ‘next year: bigger and better’. If you have some ideas or suggestions to add to the mix, we would love to hear from you. Contact us at email@example.com or 807-543-4287.
