Questions about First Nations Flooding Claims on Lake of the Woods, Shoal Lake & Winnipeg River?
If you have heard something about First Nation flooding claims on Lake of the Woods, Shoal Lake and the Winnipeg River and would like to know more about what is being considered, your best opportunity to do so is in person is by attending either of our two Summer MeetingsLearn about the process for negotiation, settlement and have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Ontario Ministry of Indigenous Affairs (IAO) negotiators will be on hand to provide information on those First Nation flooding claims, how they relate to life on the lake and to answer your questions.

MNRF staff to attend LOWDSA  Summer Meetings

We missed them at the Cottage Show and we're delighted that the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry will join us as well. Staff from both the forestry and fire divisions will be in attendance with information on a variety of topics of interest to LOWDSA members. They're looking forward to being there and answer your questions. Come a little early so you have time to talk to them before the meeting.

IJC Watershed board wants your help!
July 8th - Clarion Lakeside Inn, Kenora @ 2:30pm (immediately following Summer Meeting) and again at 6:30 pm.
The International Joint Commission's Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed Board launched a project this year to develop recommendations for water quality and aquatic ecosystem health Objectives & Alerts (advisory triggers) for the Rainy-Lake of the Woods Watershed. They would like to hear from you on your perspectives and expectations for aquatic ecosystem health in this basin. For an explanation of how Objectives and Alerts are used in boundary waters click here.

Turtle Portage Marine Railway - MNRF Public Consultation
July 15th - Morson Community Hall @ 2:30pm  (immediately following Summer Meeting)
     August 14th - Sioux Narrows Community Centre @ 4pm
MNRF intends to provide public access to the Turtle Portage Marine Railway system during the 2019 boating season. Fiscal constraints however remain unchanged and the ministry advises that a long term, cost-saving solution must be found for the future. It is the ministry's hope that a partnership can be established that allows for the continued operation of this facility. Ministry staff encourages LOWDSA members and others to consider potential opportunities and are looking forward to hearing your ideas at this meeting.
